Security Assessment Engineer


Location:  Cincinnati, OH preferred; open to candidates within our territory of IN, MI, OH, KY, TN, PA, DE, WV and MD.

Role Summary
The Senior Assessment Engineer will work closely with the current security assessment services team to provide assessment, consulting and pre-sales services, reporting directly to the Vice President of Professional Services.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform assessment services including network vulnerability assessments, system configuration asessments, web application assessments, attack and penetration testing, security policy reviews, and social engineering and physical security assessments, both remotely and at customer sites
  • Provide recommendations and architecture designs to our clients on variety of network security products including firewalls, VPNs, authentication, intrusion detection, PKI, anti-virus, load-balancing, and web filtering.
  • Support the sales process of assessment and consulting services (30% pre-sales, 70% post-sales)
  • Expected to be 70% revenue billable with the remaining time devoted to administration and ongoing education and professional development
  • Assess and design secure network architectures to provide recommendations to clients
  • Execute discrete tasks in an engagement with guidance from senior staff members, including documentation and report writing
  • 40% to 50% overnight travel will be required
  • Provide weekly time and status reports

Skills & Knowledge Requirements

  • Experience on both Microsoft & Unix operating systems
  • Experience with TCP/IP networking and troubleshooting
  • Advanced knowledge of computer and network security techniques and methodologies
  • Solid knowledge of networking and security systems; including routers, switches, firewalls, IDS/IPS, authentication systems, anti-virus, content filtering, log management, etc.
  • Skilled understanding of security issues and hacking techniques
  • Intermediate to advanced security troubleshooting skills
  • Solid report writing skills with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Knowledge of security controls (e.g. firewalls, IDS/IPS, authentication, etc.) and experience with hacking and assessment tools (nessus, nmap, wikto, nikto, metasploit, etc.)


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience and practical security knowledge
  • 2-4 years in industry experience and strong security exposure
  • CISSP, CISA, CISM, or C|EH certification preferred
  • 2+ years of experience performing network security assessments
